In Early Voting, Democrats are ahead of Republicans returning the ballots.

Time to use new, proven tactics to get out the vote. Why is the RNC encouraging us to vote early?

While 11 million new Republican voters turned out for Trump in the 2020 Election, 15 million new voters turned out for the Democrats; both historic increases in turnout. The Republicans increased their turnout by increasing ENTHUSIASM. The Democrats increased their turnout by changing the way people voted, making it easier to vote for many people.

In a recent poll, twice as many Democrats have voted than Republicans in the early ballot returns.in Arizona. 95% of Democrats say they intend to vote early, but only 65% of Republicans say they vote early. Early returns are crucial in tight races where there are thin margins, making the numbers look like one party is clearly leading another, and news media reports this. But that is not the final story and one of the problems with posting election results too soon, as many counties post the results of each batch of ballots they tabulate, some almost daily.

The reason we are encouraged to vote early is because when voting in person on election day there is the chance that something could happen to prevent making it to the polls: family emergencies, extra business at work, you get sick, weather, unexpected events that take priority. When most Democrats vote early there is a greater chance of all ballots being mailed (if mailed on time) so a strategy of mailing ballots in early works to advantage and against those who miss voting on election day but fail to vote for one good reason or another.

When the ballot comes in the mail, the voter KNOWS he or she must vote the ballot and mail it back in time. When a Democrat voter DOES NOT vote early, the Democrat Party pounds on them until the DO get the vote in because they can tell from daily voter numbers who has voted and who has not.

However, one study that did a statistical analysis of voter turnout data from the 2004 and 2008 presidential elections found that early voting by itself is associated with lower voter turnout because of how it dilutes the “stimulation” effects of election day (Burdenet al., 2013). This study is consistent with previous analyses that found no evidence of a lasting increase in turnout from early voting (Morin, 2013; Rakich, 2019), although the research is mixed (Kaplan & Yuan, 2020).

The value of early voting may be a moot point, given that the current federal administration is importing potential citizens, who may become active voters in the near future–primed to vote Democratic Party. It won’t matter how they vote, they will ensure a demographic majority given enough time.

Historically, the Republican Party has worked like a baseball team, sitting in the dugout stand waiting for their player to hit a home run and bring the loaded bases home to win the game. That no longer works. Today, it’s all about maximizing voter turnout.

EVERY DAY IS ELECTION DAY!
